McAfee Finds SpywareNuker is not Adware, Agrees to Cease Listing SpywareNuker
01/28/2005
January 28, 2004 -- TrekEight,LLC, publishers of SpywareNuker, a leading commercial anti-spyware application, announced today that McAfee Software has acknowledged that testing confirms SpywareNuker is not adware, and McAfee has further agreed to drop the inadvertent listing of SpywareNuker as an "unwanted program." Through its attorneys, McAfee released the following statement:"McAfee, Inc. wishes to correct its previous classification of TrekEight, LLC's "SpywareNuker" program as adware. The results of an internal investigation by McAfee indicate that prior versions of McAfee's anti-virus and computer security software products inadvertently identified "SpywareNuker" as adware, and a "potentially unwanted application." In fact, tests confirm "Spyware Nuker" does not function as adware, or evidence any virus or Trojan horse behavior." James Leasure, CEO of TrekEight LLC was pleased with the admission, stating "McAfee is an acknowledged leader in PC security software, and people and businesses look up to them and what they say. For McAfee to make the affirmative statement that our SpywareNuker product does not function as adware is very powerful."Leasure continued, "As you may know, TrekEight has been dogged by the continuous misconception that SpywareNuker somehow functions as adware, or is a type of malware. The truth is, SpywareNuker is none of those things. We are very pleased that McAfee was gracious enough to take the time to investigate its own mis-designation, and correct the error. McAfee's statement will help us spread the truth about our product, and finally dispel the damaging rumors about SpywareNuker." For those businesses who intentionally make false statements about TrekEight, or SpywareNuker, Leasure had this to say, "Lying about a competitor is not an acceptable business practice, and TrekEight does not intend to let those claims go uncontested." TrekEight is currently pursuing claims against other companies and individuals that defame TrekEight by falsely labeling the SpywareNuker software as a threat, and falsely accusing TrekEight of tricking customers into purchasing an anti-spyware product that is actually spyware. For further information contact McAfee's Legal Department at 5000 Headquarters Drive, Plano, Texas 75024.
